PRESS STATEMENT - CANADIAN VINTNERS ASSOCIATION THE CANADIAN VINTNERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP November 18, 2003 The Canadian Vintners Association is pleased to announce the establishment of the Canadian Vintners Association Scholarship. The $1,000 award was created to acknowledge the potential of young winemakers and is dedicated to the memory of winemaker Frank Supernak. The Scholarship serves as a "tribute to an individual whose passion, dedication and courage will remain an inspiration to future generations of Canadian winemakers", stated Bruce Walker, Chair of the Canadian Vintners Association. Supernak died tragically along with Victor Manola in November 2002, while working in the cellar of Silver Sage Winery in Oliver, British Columbia. The Canadian Vintners Association Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student pursuing studies in winemaking at the Okanagan University College. The Scholarship recipient is selected on the basis of a combination of academic achievement and financial need. David Bond, Chairman of the British Columbia Wine Institute, commented, "the Scholarship reflects our commitment to investing in the youth of the Canadian wine industry and our confidence in the wine industry as a whole". The first recipient of the Scholarship is John Weber. The award was presented to Mr. Weber at a dinner held in Kelowna, British Columbia on November 17, 2003. The Canadian Vintners Association represents over 95% of Canadian wine production and advocates on behalf of its membership both domestically and internationally.
